Hey everyone,

I’m Serena. Like a lot of developers, typing all day eventually started taking a toll on my wrists and posture. A while back I switched to what I thought was a [https://www.elimkeys.com/ best Split Keyboard] setup, and it definitely helped — but I kept running into the same issues with the hardware itself.

Most wireless split keyboards are either bulky (3D-printed or acrylic), or if you go premium with CNC aluminum, you still end up dealing with that TRRS cable between halves. It kind of defeats the purpose of a clean and flexible desk setup.

So my team and I decided to try building something ourselves — something closer to what I’d personally consider a best Split Keyboard for everyday development.

We’ve been working on a prototype called Elytra, and here’s the basic idea:

Firmware: ZMK
Connectivity: Fully wireless — no cable to the PC, no wire between halves
Chassis: CNC-machined aluminum
Weight: ~420g (using a biomimetic cutout structure underneath to keep it light)

The goal wasn’t to reinvent everything, but to remove the common friction points and make something that actually fits into a developer’s everyday workflow — portable, minimal, and comfortable over long hours.

I’m especially curious about feedback from people here:

What do you think about going fully wireless for a split keyboard?
Any thoughts on aluminum vs lighter materials for daily carry?
If you’ve worked with ZMK, how did you approach BLE stability and battery optimization?

Would really appreciate any thoughts — especially from folks who’ve spent time tweaking their setups.

	:::Tu peux tout éditer sauf les pages utilisateur qui sont plus ou moins des espaces personnels (voir le sujet du jour sur la liste de diffusion) Même si certaines sont des projets devenu communs, il vaut mieux demander au propriétaire. Au pire des cas, un admin effacera ou modèrera ton intervention.
